My name is Isa, I am a digital creator with a passion for community and the environment looking to make a change through video production, graphic design, social media management, and most recently, biodesign. I come from a competitive background in television production and like to combine those skills with a variety of new mediums I discover. Though I mainly dabble in media and communications, I am open to exploring anything from biodata sonification in music to biomaterials. If it requires creativity and problem-solving, I'm up for the challenge!

SERGUS stands for the Socio-Ecological Role of Greenways in Urban Systems. We seek to understand how greenways can act as an interface between human and natural systems across urban environments, potentially serving as a means for enhancing urban resilience.
This two-month undergraduate research experience allowed me to dip my feet in interdisciplinary research, urban design, and ecological methodology, all while making a tangible difference within a growing city in southern Tennessee. This project was funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and operated as a part of the Urban Greenspace Research Collaborative.

The main theme behind LYKEN is biophilic design! Forming and sustaining fruitful relationships within the community is a central focus for myself and the other participants of this collection; and that philosophy also extends to the relationship we build with our local environment. Looking toward the future of sustainability, each designer (Maya, Isa, Will, Christian, Jason, and Steel) has brought their own version of biophilia to life through various natural design techniques, such as home-grown vegan leather, natural dyeing, and weaving native plants into the fibers themselves. This project has been such a thrilling opportunity for all of us to explore what can be created with what is right outside of our doorsteps. In the end, that’s what we want LYKEN to represent - just how far we can go when the people and resources in our community come together.​​
This design is made up of four main components:
- Leaf leather vest sealed by scoby leather
- Burlap shoulder piece with live local flora (moss, ferns, "weeds," etc.), which were grown on the fabric itself
- Altered jeans naturally dyed with coffee and tea
- Biodata sonification setup in which the electrical impulses from plants are turned into MIDI signals and consequently, music
Accessories were made from jewelry wire, cord, and foraged materials such as pinecones, aerial plants, and animal bones.
Looking to promote thoughtful interactions with nature, this design advocates for the inclusion of the environment in our definition of community, since believing we are separate from the natural world makes effective climate action almost impossible. Completing LYKEN was a massive learning opportunity and will serve as foundational knowledge for future biodesign projects! Huge thank you to all of the designers for embarking on such a long and experimental journey with me, I could not have picked a better team.

KnightHacks 1st Overall Winner
Our Project Formify, is designed to make at-home physical therapy more accessible by providing real-time guidance for rehabilitation exercises. Using OpenCV and MediaPipe for motion tracking, our web-based platform compares users' live movements with prescribed exercises. To top it off, our custom-built compression glove delivers haptic feedback to correct form by mapping the full body to the palm of the hand--making adjustments easier and more intuitive. Incredibly proud of our team for blending computer vision, and haptic feedback into a tool that can enhance at-home physical therapy.
